SDF - Homeless, Paris
A homeless person lying in front of the entrance of a supermarket
in Paris.
I was shocked, and so I decided to publish photos of people
living on the fringes of society.
In the past few years I witnessed
how more and more of these people were slipping through the decreasing
social welfare net. I repeatedly watched busses evacuating confused,
dirty, stinking people from underground stations. In the summer of
1999 I worked in a soup kitchen at the Gare de Lyon (train station
in Paris) and then I joined a group of young social welfare workers.
They helped me to establish contact with the homeless.
If someone loses
their dignity: how can they get it back, can someone give it back to
them? This was the idea underlying my work.
